KubeCon EU 2025 – Community Collaboration Along the Thames

Posted: March 31st, 2025 | Author: | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Hard to believe that it has a been a year since the Cloud Native community gathered in Paris in 2024. But, it is that time again, this time a hop, skip and jump across the English Channel to the city of London and KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2025. For this iteration, it is expected that over 12,000 cloud native enthusiasts will descend upon the ExCel London Centre for 5 days talking about everything going on in the cloud native ecosystem.

As per the norm, I will have a very active role throughout the entire event which includes participation in various forums and are detailed below:

Monday March 31, 2025

CNCF Maintainers Summit

Gathering with fellow maintainers of CNCF projects to learn more about the various ongoing projects and how to build a stronger set of projects, regardless of maturity.

ORAS Project Lightning Talk

ORAS is CNCF Sandbox project that provides a CLI and a set of client libraries for interacting with OCI registries. I will be holding a lightning talk that briefly shares how to use ORAS to manage and distribute multi-platform based images which enables an enhanced security posture. The session will be rapid fire, so don’t blink — or you might miss out!

ArgoCon

One of the most exciting initiatives that I have been part of over the course of the last year is bringing native OCI artifact support to Argo CD. In this panel session at the co-located event ArgoCon, I will be joined by fellow contributors and community members to share our insights about this transformational feature, how it can be used, and when it will be available.

OpenShift Commons Gathering

It wouldn’t be a cloud native event without another rendition of OpenShift Commons Gathering which brings members of the OpenShift community together to discuss how they and their organizations are using platform and the efforts to foster greater innovation and collaboration in the community.

I will be joined by longtime Red Hatter and Senior Principal Product Manager Ian Lawson where we will talk all thing security for an interactive round table discussion about OpenShift security, how users are leveraging the platform, and what the future holds.

Helm Project Kiosk

Helm, as a CNCF graduated project, will have a presence like so many of CNCF projects will have a Kiosk within the Partner Pavillion throughout the week. At the kiosk, you can learn more about the Helm project, share how you are using the tool, and learn more about Helm 4 — the next major version of Helm which is scheduled to be released later in 2025.

I, like many of the other maintainers present at the event, will take a turn running the kiosk. My shift will be in the evening during the #KubeCrawl event. So feel feel to grab a drink, a bit and lets talk Helm!

SOPS Project Kiosk

SOPS is a CNCF Sandbox project that provides encryption capabilities of files in a variety of formats using a number of popular backends. I, along with several other community enthusiasts, helped revive development efforts and shepherded the sponsorship of the project within the CNCF. I am excited to be able to share with the community everything that we are doing with SOPS, how it can be used, and where we are headed next.

Kiosk 19B – 10:30-13:00

TAG App Delivery Booth

The CNCF TAG (Technical Advisory Group) features projects and initiatives related to delivering cloud native applications. I am one of the leads of the Artifacts Working Group (WG) which focuses on all of the efforts related to managing software artifacts. Join me at the Kiosk where I’ll help share greater insights about the current initiatives within TAG and how to get involved.

Kiosk – 14:30-15:30

Helm Maintainer Session

2025 is the year of Helm 4, the next major version of Helm, and we are inching closer to the first major release of the de-facto Kubernetes package manager in over five years. I will be joined by fellow and longtime Helm maintainer Matt Farina where we will provide an update of the development efforts underway, what we have left to do, and how you can make a difference in Helm 4. These sessions always fill the room. So, be sure to come early and participate!
